South Coast


St. Ivan Island


The island of Saint Ivan is located half a mile away from Sozopol and it is the biggest Bulgarian island in the Black Sea. Its territory is protected by the Bulgarian government and proclaimed a nature reserve because of the more than 70 species of endangered birds that nest there.

Sozopol


Sozopol is one of Bulgaria’s most popular towns on the South coast. The town is 22 miles south from Burgas, with a population of approximately 5000 people which increases greatly during the summer season.

Smokinya Beach

Nesebar


There are few coastal towns in Bulgaria which are proclaimed to be an architectural and archaeological reserve, and in the meantime, they are also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Bulgaria and Bulgaria’s 100 Tourist Sites. This is Nesebar and it is one of Europe’s oldest towns. The town is situated 22 miles north-east from Burgas and 267 miles from Sofia.

Lozenets


Lozenets is a small village and a seaside resort, located about 40 miles from Burgas and 4 miles from Tsarevo. Although it was founded just some 80 years ago and does not have much of a historical heritage, it still proves to be quite attractive not only for Bulgarian tourists but also for many foreign visitors.

Irakli is a protected swathe of land with a camping site and it is located 43 miles north from Burgas. Irakli is neighbored by the village of Emona and cape Emine. This patch of land is famous among eco tourists as one of the most well-preserved beaches on the Black Sea.

Varna

Dolphinarium


If you are visiting Varna, the dolphinarium is a fun place to see. The dolphinarium is the entertainment attracting the largest number of visitors. It is an amphitheater with a 6 meters in diameter pool in the middle. They have scheduled daily performances with dolphins. The dolphinarium is closed on Monday.

The Sea Garden


One of Varna's landmarks is the Sea Garden. The first recreation center was opened here in 1862, but the true decorative arrangements of the park started in 1895. It is the largest park in Varna and is one of most beautiful parks on the Balkan Peninsula too. Rare vegetation species grow here. There are monuments of prominent Bulgarian National Revival figures.

Saints Constantine and Helena


Saints Constantine and Helena is the oldest Bulgarian resort on the Black Sea. The resort is located about 6 miles north-east from Varna and is named after a monastery in the vicinity built around the 16th century. They say the monastery was founded by a group of monks who sought refuge in the forest from ottoman soldiers.

Kavarna - Bulgaria's Rock Capital


Kavarna used to be no more than a small fishing port aside a man-made stretch of beach where local people congregated in summer to party on the sands and listen to rockmusic. Today, Kavarna is home to 12,500 people including many expats. It consists of 42 km of coastline with many natural and historic phenomena including remains of ancient fortresses, churches and necropolises. The area is also rich in mineral springs.
