Varna is the second largest city in Bulgaria and the largest tourist resort located on the Black Sea. Besides its beautiful beaches, it boasts of its ancient history.
Varna is one of the most ancient European cities. Evidence shows that the first traces of human life in the region can be dated to 100,000 BC. The city exists under the name Odessos since Thracian times.
The honor of creating the Regional Historical Museum in Varna in 1887 belongs to the tireless pioneers of Bulgarian archeology - the brothers Herman and Karel Skorpil. Since 1993 the museum takes the entire building of the former Girls' High School in 32 halls, covering 2000 square meters unfolding of the treasures collected for decades. In the museum are kept more than 100,000 objects found in the Varna region and the entire northeastern Bulgaria, flint tools, arrowheads, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures, a large amount of pottery, amazing finds from the Varna eneolithic necropolis where the amount of found ancient gold exceed in number and weight of all the prehistoric treasures of the same age together, and there are scepters found - a sure sign that the deceased were from upper caste of the population. From the time of the Thracians there are exhibited bronze ornaments and iron weapons, jewelry of silver and gold, ceramic. From Odessos during the Hellenistic era - beautiful gold ornaments, wooden sarcophagi decorated with terracotta figures, bronze glass vessels, bronze, silver and gold coins. From the Roman era - fine vessels of glass and pottery, architectural ornaments, bronze and marble statues. And more - pottery from the First and Second Bulgarian kingdom, magnificent examples of medieval goldsmith's and remarkable ceramics.
Beginning of the Naval Museum, now a symbol of the city, was launched in 1885 by Russian officers of the Bulgarian office. To help the creation of a Maritime Museum, as it was called originally, was reactivated Karel Shkorpil and so was created the first exhibition in two rooms in the already mentioned Girls' School. In 1956 the museum was moved to its present location – in a beautiful building, built in 1890 for the Italian consul Asaretto.
The museum stores over 100 000 artifacts, photographs and documents of the history of both the Navy and of commercial shipping and shipbuilding, the museum has also magnificent works of art with a sea theme. The exhibitions are located on two floors in 12 rooms. Here, numerous photos, documents and exhibits acquaint visitors with the history of the fleet back to antiquity. Since 1897 the command of the Bulgarian Navy moved in Varna. This period is illustrated with a rich collection of models of warships "Assen", "Kaliakra", "Nadezhda" and other interesting exhibits.
In the park of the museum can be seen collection of mines, anchors, periscopes, torpedo apparatus, gunships and guns, as well as the boat "Cor Caroli" that Captain Georgi Georgiev went out sailing around the world. Of great interest and enjoyed is the ship-museum "Drazki", which in November 12, 1912 sunk the Turkish torpedo cruiser "Hamidie".
Other attractions in Varna are the Aquarium and Dolphinarium. In the vicinity of the city are the monastery of Aladzha and Euxinograd.

Dolphinarium
If you are visiting Varna, the dolphinarium is a fun place to see. The dolphinarium is the entertainment attracting the largest number of visitors. It is an amphitheater with a 6 meters in diameter pool in the middle. They have scheduled daily performances with dolphins. The dolphinarium is closed on Monday.
