Travel to the Golden Bridges in Vitosha

One of Vitosha’s famous sights is “Zlatnite mostove” (The Golden Bridges). This is a natural formation also known as a stone river, or stone run. The formation is located at approximately 4593 ft above sea level. Some say the name “Golden Bridges” might have derived from the fact long ago the place was of particular interest to local gold-diggers. A more probable explanation is that the oval stones are covered with yellow lichens which give the place this “goldy” look, especially when bathed in sunlight.

There are many stone runs in Bulgaria and around the world, however, only the Vitosha and Falklands stone rivers are known to be of exceptional diversity, size and abundance.
This unique for Bulgaria natural phenomena is easily accessible by car and there is a regular bus transportation available.

If you have decided to do some hitch-hiking and you need some rest before you go back- you can stay for the night at one of the many cozy near-by mountain hostels. You can also enjoy a nice cup of hot herbal tea at one of the restaurants in the vicinity.
