Panagyurishte always was associated with the tragic fate of the April Uprising of 1876, when the Bulgarian people tried to gain their freedom and independence after five centuries of slavery. Some of the fiercest battles are conducted near this small town.
In the XIX century Panagyurishte was experiencing real economic boom thanks to the development of crafts in the town. In 1876, the town was the center of the fourth revolutionary district, which is why after crushing the uprise it was burned and completely destroyed. So there are almost no surviving old houses from that time. There are only a few buildings like Tutev house in which on April 20, 1876 was announced the start of the uprising. There is museum room at the house, where the leaders of the uprising was accommodated and where was written the letter knwon as the “Blood Letter” to the Bulgarian people. In the Historical Museum one of the copies of the "Blood Letter" is still preserved.
Oborishte is another place near the town, closely linked with the history of the uprising. It is located 8 km from Panagyurishte. At this point on 14 to 16 of April, 1876 met the first Bulgarian National Assembly.
Bulgarian Central Revolutionary Committee in Giurgiu, Romania decided in late 1875, that in Bulgaria should be a revolt. On April 4 letter was sent to the villages of the four counties revolutionary. Four days after arrival of the letter specially elected delegates began to gather in the area of Oborishte. At the meeting arrived 64 delegates, and the total number of attendees was over 300 people. For meeting room served the forest glade. There were a sword, a gun and a church cross in which all present attendants swore.
Zahari Stoyanov, one of the chroniclers of the subsequent events, described the atmosphere of the meeting. It was held in secret from the Turkish authorities, during the night. Before the debate all the people prayed, and then delegates made their vows. According to Stoyanov the meeting was a monumental moment for the Bulgarian people, which all present remembered forever.
The Assembly is led by Georgi Benkovski. The most important issues related to leadership of the uprising. After a stormy debate as leaders are selected Georgi Benkovski and Panayot Volov.
After three days of meetings and lively discussions the delegates decided that the uprise should be announced on May 1, 1876. The fighting tactics were created. Special commission was selected to develop a comprehensive plan for the announcement and implementation of the uprising.
The area where the meeting was held, was declared historic. In 1928, at the same place a monument of white stone was built. At the bottom of the stone the names of delegates and participants in the meeting are inscribed. In honor of the centennial of the beginning of the April Uprising in Panagyurishte a memorial was built. Each year on 1 and 2 of May of this site are organized celebrations to commemorate the victims of the National Liberation fights.

Museum "Stanislav Dospevski"
The house-museum "Stanislav Dospevski" was built in 1864. It is located in the neighborhood "Varosha" in Pazardzhik. The house was built by craftsmen from Bratzigovo.
