National Palace of Culture is the largest multifunctional complex in Southeastern Europe. Situated in the city center it is now an integral part of everyday life for the residents of Sofia.
NPC opened on March 31, 1981. The project was carried out by the architect Alexander Barov. The palace was built for less than four years, although the plan was to be build for 12 years. The logo of the palace is the fire-bird-shaped strips of curved rays in a circle.
National Palace of Culture has 13 rooms and 55 conference rooms with capacities from 100 to 4 000 seats. The center provides an opportunity for recovery of over 15 000 square meters exhibition area. It has excellent technical equipment for events and events of different nature: congresses, conferences, concerts, cinema, exhibitions and fairs.
National Palace of Culture is a unique fusion of modern architecture and plastic arts technique. It has over one hundred works of monumental painting, sculpture, woodcarving, tapestry and metalworking. A curious fact is that the building has incorporated more iron than the Eiffel Tower. But for residents and guests of the capital is more important the role of a cultural center as well as the prestigious congress and conference business and political events that it hosts. In 2003 the National Palace of Culture was declared by the International Association of Congress palaces (AIPS) for second in the world, and in 2005 - the best convention center in the world. The palace has hosted the XXIII General Conference of UNESCO, XIII Conference of FAO for Europe, the conference of foreign ministers from member states of NATO and many others.
