The house-museum "Stanislav Dospevski" was built in 1864. It is located in the neighborhood "Varosha" in Pazardzhik. The house was built by craftsmen from Bratzigovo. It has two floors, bay windows and six rooms with lounge. It is adorned with rich murals. It was declared a cultural monument of national importance. Its architectural style is "Sultan yapasa" – Constantinople’s typical house, typical of the Bulgarian National Revival period.
Stanislav Dospevski is actually the nickname of Zafir Zograf - Dimitar Zograf’s son and nephew of Zachary Zograf. Dospevski is one of the most important Revival artists and one of the first with academic art education in Bulgaria. He is founder of the secular realistic portrait in Bulgaria.
In 1850 he moved to Moscow where he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and later, from 1853 to 1856 he studied in the Imperial Art Academy in St. Petersburg in the class of F.A. Bruni.
The museum exhibition includes the recovered interior environment, which smacks of genuine artistry, with authentic furniture and belongings, as well as original artwork by the artist. The most valuable are the family portraits, as well as the undisputed masterpiece "Domnika - the Bulgarian Mona Lisa."
The house has three murals "Golden Horn strait" in Istanbul", "Pushkin Square in Odessa" and "Changing of the guard in front of Imperial Palace in St. Petersburg". In addition, the house has a rich murals both inside and outside, which stands out among the modern buildings.
Unfortunately, the fate of this remarkable and talented Bulgarian artist is tragic. During the Russo-Turkish War he was arrested by the Turkish authorities and died in prison in Constantinople on January 6, 1878, but left behind an example of a dignified life and wonderful artistic creations.
Since 1966 the house is a subsidiary of City Art Gallery "Stanislav Dospevski" - Pazardzhik.
