The life of one of the great Bulgarian writers goes into the vast Danube plain. The plain and its people provide inspiration for his work so he became the "singer of Dobrudja". But he was actually born in a small village near the Stara planina mountain - Zheravna.

Zheravna is located at the foot of Stara Planina near the town of Kotel. The village is distinctive and has managed to preserve its uniqueness. That's why tourists visit it often. There are more than 200 wooden houses, some of them have been turned into museums of prominent Bulgarian people. One of them belonged to the family of Jordan Yovkov.

Jordan Yovkov was born in Zheravna in 1880. He passed his childhood here, but at the age of 13 years, the family moved in Dobrudja, where his father worked. Furthermore a poet, Yovkov deserves recognition and as "master of the short story" with his memorable, full of humanism collections "Balkan Legends," "Last joy," "Evening at Antimovo Khan," "If they could talk" and many more.

And people of Zheravna have not forgotten him. Visit the house where was born the talented writer. It is a modest one-story and suits his character. You will see in the yard his monument, sitting and watching at the arrivals, as if lost in memories. When you find yourself inside the house, you will feel the atmosphere that surrounds it.

The house is located on the Square "Golyamoto bardo". There is a museum dedicated to the writer. The collection contains many documents, manuscripts and photographs, telling about his life and work.
