The Historical Museum in Etropole opened on December 7, 1958. Today it is housed in the building of the former Konak, built in 1853 by Etropole masters Deno and Tsvetko in typical Revival architectural style.
The museum presents the history of the town and the surrounding villages. Etropole is an ancient Thracian settlement, dating from the VII-VI century BC. The location and the natural conditions of the region promote the economic development and trade in the ancient times. There are many archaeological evidences - Macedonian and Greek coins, specimens of Greek pottery, jewelry and luxury items, according to early establishment of trade with distant markets - Egypt and Phoenicia. During the medieval period the town developed as a handicraft center. Developed was also the metal production. During the Renaissance the town, together with the monastery "St. Trinity" was a significant literary and educational center for the Bulgarian lands.
The rich heritage of Etropole municipality is presented in 10 exhibition halls: Archaeology, Ethnography, Crafts XVI-XVII century, XVIII Crafts XVIII-XIX century, Crafts XIX –XX century, National Revival, Etropolska literary school, National liberation struggles, Prominent residents of Etropole and Philanthropy. The museum is included in the organization "Museums in the world" with headquarters in Munich.
The old Clock Tower next to the Museum in Etropole is one of the oldest in Bulgaria. It was built in 1710 by master Todor. Originally it was built as a watch tower and defensive installation, which can be judged by the way of construction. Masonry is of river stone and travertine. The overall height of the tower is 20 meters.
In 1821 the tower was converted into a clock. The skilled craftsmen Dido produced the clockwork and the bell was taken from the ruined church of the monastery "St. Atanas". The tower was restored, the clock works properly until today. It was declared an architectural monument.
