Historical Museum Dimitrovgrad

The city is born with a decree signed on September 2, 1947 by then Prime Minister and leader of the Communist Party Georgi Dimitrov, which unite the villages Rakovski, Marino and Chernokonyovo. Main credit for its construction has the youth brigade movement.

Even if it is an artificial city that exists from several decades, it is an integral part of the recent history of Bulgaria and keeps the memories of things that are not only instructive but also a source of pride for its inhabitants.

One of them is the historical museum where you can see objects and photographs from the life of people from the three villages, on whose place Dimitrovgrad arised, from the enactment of the baron von Hirsch’s railroad in 1873, the development of mining in this area and so on. Numerous documents, weapons, letters, photographs, topographic maps and memories of witnesses testify to the involvement of local people in the final stage of World War II.

Dimitrovgrad Historical Museum has three exhibition halls - two permanent exhibitions and a temporary exhibition hall.

In Hall 1 is located exhibition "Youth brigade movement in Bulgaria from 1946 to 1988". It tracks all stages of this movement - a movement that has its successes and weaknesses magnified and challenged, but left lasting traces in the most recent Bulgarian history.

In its existence over the years the museum has always been first and foremost museum of Dimitrovgrad. This theme is present in all exposures. It is essential for Hall 2 - "Dimitrovgrad". Here is presented the overall development of the city - its appearance and construction, economic and societal changes, cultural life, international relations.

In Hall 3 are regulated temporary exhibitions and other cultural festivals.

The attention is attracted by original documents relating to the establishment of the city: from decisions, protocols and letters to the architectural plans - passionless witnesses over the years that attracted many historians, researchers and interpreters of the past.

Separate sections are devoted to agriculture, which once had boasted the three constituent villages, industry, education, culture and socio-political life of Dimitrovgrad. Interesting personal records are saved, such as those of the former Mayor Peter Yordanov, of Pencho Kubadinki himself - known activist of the Communist Party, one of the main leaders of the brigade movement, with which are related the most of the exhibits in the museum: uniforms, badges, decorations and medals, newspapers, newsletters, photos and tools.

In the section "Ethnography," created in 1998, is kept a substantial collection of traditional clothing, tools and dishes, jewelry and church plates.
