Historical Museum - Isperih

The Historical Museum in Isperih was created as a branch of the Regional History Museum in Razgrad in 1978, but it has an autonomous existence since 1984. The museum has halls for permanent and temporary exhibitions, ethnographic house and operating windmill. The museum manages the historical reserve "Sboryanovo" and the Sveshtari tomb.

Today in the History Museum there are separate Isperih archeology, ethnography, new and modern history halls, art gallery and administrative and economic restoration laboratory, which employs 31 staff - museum professionals, guides, restorers, technicians and guards. The fund keeps over 30,000 museum pieces.

Fund "Archaeology" includes artifacts from the Neolithic, Eneolithic, Hellenistic and Early Iron Age, Antiquity and Middle Ages, found during archaeological excavations and field studies in the Isperih area. In the years following the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule in Isperih settled people from different parts of the country, and after World War I - from the Romanian Dobrogea. Exclusive of household wealth, and ethnic folk traditions and their interplay can be seen in the ethnographic collections of the museum.

The Permanent exhibition is located in the library building "Suznanie" in the center of the town.It is opened for visits from 7 November 1975. At 180 square meters is shown the Isperih history from the antiquity to the present day, archaeological and ethnographic materials, documents, photos and personal belongings of famous people from the town and the municipality.

The Art Gallery (room for temporary exhibitions) occupies the southern half of the first floor of the cinema (the old community center) in downtown. It was established in 1978. From 1991 it is part of the Department of Art in the History Museum Isperih. It has a rich picture fund. The hall is used not only for artistic but also thematic, archaeological, historical and other exhibitions.

The Ethnographic house is situated in the center of Isperih near the library. In the past, it was Turkish Konak (Police office), and later it became home of a wealthy Bulgarian. In 1991 its restoration was completed and the house began to function as a museum. Here you can see objects and instruments of life and livelihood of the local people. Monthly temporary exhibitions are presented - devoted to different aspects of livelihood and lifestyle of people in past and contemporary craftsmen.

15 km from Isperih towards Varna, in the Belintsi village in the early twentieth century, entirely wooden windmill was created. Here you can learn about the structure, history and importance of windmills in the region.
