Baggage information

All passengers of Bulgaria Air are entitled to free carriage of checked baggage (in the aircraft baggage compartments) and of cabin baggage on-board. All passengers of Bulgaria Air are entitled to free carriage of checked baggage (in the aircraft baggage compartments) and of cabin baggage on-board. The free allowances for number and types of baggage may vary depending on the travel class (business or economy) or of the type of aircraft, whereby the flight will be performed. Baggage transportation on regular lines also conforms to a number of general rules, which you need to keep in mind:

1. Objects, transportation of which in checked baggage is prohibited:

Documents, keys, cash, travellers’ checks, credit and debit cards, securities;
All sorts of jewellery, precious metals, precious and semi-precious stones;
Electronic or technical devices and accessories for them, such as: computers, photo cameras, video cameras, cell phones etc. All sorts of gases in pressurized vessels;
Hazardous chemicals;
Antique objects, valuable objects of art;
Fragile or perishable goods.
All sorts of baggage, not properly packaged, for which a risk exists of damage during air carriage;
Objects, prohibited by the current legislation of any state from, through or for the territory of which a flight would be performed;
All sorts of objects, which in view of their nature, type, form, odor may cause damage to the aircraft, to other passengers, other baggage or to employees handling it.

2. Rules for carriage of checked baggage

the standard allowance for free carriage of checked baggage of passengers in economy class is up to 20 kg.
for business class passengers, holders of the Golden Frequent Flyer Card and some specific categories of passengers the standard allowance is higher
each kilogram in excess of the standard allowance is treated as excess baggage. Excess baggage is subject to a separate charge per kilogram, depending on the destination
the weight of each separate piece of baggage may not exceed 30 kg. Baggage of greater weight is not accepted for transportation
each piece of baggage must be placed in a package, preventing spillage or damage to the contents during automatic sorting and carriage to and from the aircraft
in case your suitcase exhibits exterior damage, established at check-in, a label indicating limited liability of the carrier will be affixed to it
we recommend to affix permanently to each piece of baggage a label with the passenger’s full names and contact details. Thus you may be assured that even in case your baggage is lost it would be found quickly and easily
at your discretion you may package your suitcases and bags in additional polyethylene wrapping – machines for such purpose are available in the departure halls of most airports
in case of baggage lost or delayed you must inform without delay the lost baggage service of the respective airport before leaving the baggage pick-up room

Note: If you are flying on a code-share partner of “ Bulgaria Air”, please check with the operating carrier for maximum acceptance rules of checked baggage allowance as they may be different.

3. Rules of transportation of cabin baggage
Each passenger of Bulgaria Air is entitled to transport one piece of cabin baggage with maximum size 55x40x23 and weight of up to 10 kg. The dimensions vary for the different types of aircraft, which the company operates and you may inform yourself about them at the time of purchase of our ticket. In case your baggage would not conform to the allowances in terms of dimensions and weight, it will be transported as checked baggage and if found in excess of the free allowance, it will be charged as excess baggage. In addition to the cabin luggage allowed, the following may also be transported in the aircraft cabin:

Canes or crutches
Books and newspapers for in-flight reading
Folding baby carriages, baby cribs

4. Additional restrictions on carriage of objects in cabin baggage.
In compliance with an EU Directive of November 2006, passengers may carry liquids, gels and aerosols in packages of up to 100 ml. All of them must be packaged in a separate transparent plastic bag of a volume not exceeding 1 litre. This restriction applies to all sorts of gels, toothpastes, shaving foams, creams and shampoos. Exceptions are allowed only in regard to infant foods and medicines, required during the flight. Any liquids, purchased at airport duty free stores, must be packaged and sealed in a transparent wrapping at the respective store.

5. Combining of weights: the allowances for transportation of cabin and checked baggage may not be combined
In case oversize fragile objects must be transported in the cabin (such as music instruments), an extra charge is payable. Please contact our Call Centre before purchasing a ticket, in order to clarify the specific terms.
